Being a leader is not easy. These days, when remote work is the recommended setup for many industries, leading a team can be a struggle.   Have the character of a servant, shares Gene Bernshtam. While hiring more people to join the team might free a leader’s hands of some tasks, maintaining a service mentality makes for better leadership. By considering their team’s strengths and weaknesses, a leader can streamline processes more effectively, therefore making tasks easier for members. Experience matters. Managers and supervisors can spot talent from day one but are keener to promote to leadership posts those who have the love for learning and gaining experiences.

Transparency may not be everyone’s favorite topic when it comes to leadership. However, a leader who is willing to learn from successes and mistakes can impart the same behavior to their employees. Set an excellent example for team members to follow. Instead of demanding excellent work from employees, be sure to display the quality in every task.

According to seasoned CEO Gene Bernshtam, great leaders prioritize long-term solutions. Settling for short-term solutions won’t prevent issues from arising from time to time. One of the things many forget to do is bring out the best in people. Leaders work to make their people better. They set an example that loves feedback, asks for suggestions, and heeds to corrections even if it comes from employees.
