If you’ve been a car aficionado for a very long time like Gene Bernshtam, you might experience the coming of age when you find out that a car from your youthful and more energetic days is now considered a classic. That’s exactly what the Porsche Boxster 986 is today.
The Porsche Boxster 986 is a mid-engine roadster produced by the German car manufacturer Porsche between 1996 and 2004. It was introduced in late 1996 at the Bologna Motor Show as a 1997 model year vehicle, followed by an updated version in 2004.
From its founding in 1996, the Porsche Boxster 986 is now a classic, with over 20 years of sports car brilliance that many car aficionados like Gene Bernshtam can attest to. Recently, as Porsche UK’s way of celebrating 70 years of existence, it brought 20 freshly restored first-generation 986 Boxsters to the NEC Classic Motor Show. However, these came with a modernized flavor, as they were installed with the brand’s proprietary tech, like integrated navigation and tracking systems.

The cars also come in Porsche’s classic liquid silver metal paint, often associated with the very popular Porsche 918 Spyder. So surely this offers a chance for Porsche aficionados to relive the good old days of the not-so-recent past.
This also excites a specific group of enthusiasts who, 20 or so years ago, could only manage to salivate at the sight of a Boxster 986 speeding past them. Today, with perhaps better means to acquire their dream car, they have a legitimate shot at owning it.
Gene Bernshtam has participated in various car shows and competitions. He continues to add to his famed collection of classic cars. For more information, visit this page.
