Leather: Caring for the classic car interior upholstery
As a classic car restorer and enthusiast, Gene Bernshtam has accumulated knowledge and experience over the years that he shares with everyone via his series of blogs. For this blog, he gives a quick review of how people can care for their classic car’s leather upholstery. Below are two of the most effective ways of taking care of leather.
Vacuum – properly.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when vacuuming a car is that they are too “rough” with the tool. Many vacuum cleaners have quite sharp tips, while others have hard brushes. If a person isn’t gentle with the vacuum cleaner on the leather upholstery, they may damage it or pierce little holes that may end up becoming tears.
Use leather cleaner and conditioner.
Since leather is quite sensitive, only use leather cleaners for the upholstery. Using soap and shampoo will not only damage the leather, but it will also shorten the lifespan of the upholstery.
As for the leather conditioner, this should be performed after cleaning the leather cleaner, and vacuuming is done. Conditioners bring back that glow that adds to the allure of classic cars. Many conditioners also have a refreshing scent.
